Change, a word with many layers….life changes occur whether we “want” them to or not, some good, some bad. So as I pondered the meaning of this word I was a bit overwhelmed by the ideas of how I could proceed. Then lightening struck…..simplify! Take the medium we all love to work with, fabric, alter it through surface design or simply cut and paste, so to speak. A couple of the commercial fabrics were used as is; on others the following techniques were used by me or friends to “change” the cloth: hand-dyeing, shibori and discharge. I then tore, cut, fused or stitched the fabrics together into a random composition that I found pleasing…simple as that.
